If your business boasts a large range of beautiful products, what better way to showcase these than witih a slideshow? A slideshow is an excellent way to display a collection of  photos and in this  post I will show you how you can create a simple but effective one using Google's Picasa application. In other posts we will cover how to embed a YouTube video, add  driving directions and  even a weather forecast to your website.

In this post we will be recommending Google's Picasa which is an application for organising photos online. Through it you can upload images, give them descriptions and arrange them into albums. You can also use Picasa to create slideshows for use on your website which is what we will be covering here.

  • To use Picasa you will need to have a Google account. If you do not already have one, I suggest doing so now- it's free and will be handy for other applications owned by Google. Once you have done that, head over to  http://picasaweb.google.com/home  and create a new account. If you already have an account on Picasa you can simply log in to it. Have a read through the Terms and  Conditions and click the Free Download button if you have not already installed it.
  • Now, create a new album by  clicking on the Upload button. You can add a title here and other details, and also choose the Public or Unlisted option. On the following page you will be prompted to install the Picasa Uploader. Once you have installed this, choose your photos to upload. Then, click on the album's page and make a note of the RSS feed address by right-clicking on the RSS link which you will see at the bottom of the page.Select the 'Copy Shortcut' option.
  • Next, visit  http://bit.ly/gZU49K and click on the 'Add to your webpage' button . This will take you to the Preferences page and it is here that you can paste the feed you copied in the previous step. Paste it into the Picasa Web RSS Feed box.  Delete the text in the title box and increase the size of the gadget so the image can be seen without the need to crop it. You can view the effect of any changes you have made by simply clicking on the Preview Changes button.
  • If everything has been customised to your satisfaction you can now click on the 'Get the Code' button. Copy and paste this code into the webpage where you want your slideshow to appear. A plus point for using this app is that if you update the images in the Picasa Web Album, the new images will appear on your website automatically.
