A five -part  SEO course

Part 1

Before you really get started, read the advice provided by Google webmasters on how to optimise your website atwww.google.com/webmasters. All the main search engines offer their own advice on how to optimise your website. SEO is a constantly evolving area and it is also worth reading the blogs on the subject; any of the following are good:

The first thing to get right is  to make sure your site is easy to ‘crawl’. Search engines will send out spiders to read the text on your website and then index them  (‘fetch them’). The key is to make it as easy as possible for these spiders to navigate your site. Flash-based content, content generated through JavaScript content displayed as images and other rich media cannot be seen by these spiders. This is why a balance must be struck between the need to engage your visitors through rich, appealing media and spider-friendly text. This is perhaps easier said than done but a good designer will be able to guide you in the process.
